The holiday season can bring a lot of grief, as we remember those who aren’t around to celebrate anymore, or face the harsh reality of families that aren’t what we hoped they’d be. While there can be a lot of joy this season, there can also be a lot of feelings we are less excited to make space for. But Jesus came to live among us to be fully human, reminding us that all that we are and all that we feel is part of how God made us to be. We are created to FEEL and that is good, even when it doesn’t feel good. Blue Christmas is a pause in our celebrations to make space for those feelings we might rather push away: sorrow and longing, anger and fear, resentment and jealousy.
